Setting
Hirz Bay Campground occupies a hilltop of manzanita and oak overlooking the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake. Each campsite features a paved parking spur, picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food locker, with flush toilets, drinking water, a pay phone, and an overflow parking area on site. Hikers can head directly onto the 2-mile Hirz Bay Trail from camp, while motorized and non-motorized boaters can reach the public Hirz Bay boat launch one mile away. Nearby lake resorts provide fuel, watercraft rentals, and marina services.
Getting there: From Redding, CA, remain on I-5 to Gilman Road. (From the north, take Salt Creek exit to Gilman Road). Take Gilman Road east for 11 miles to entrance of Hirz Bay.
