Setting
Dekkas Rock Campground is a group facility on the McCloud Arm of Lake Shasta, set along a mountainous, evergreen-covered shoreline at 1,067 feet elevation. The camp accommodates up to 60 people with eight large tables, two pedestal grills, a barbecue grill, two fire rings, four unpaved parking spurs, and an eight-space lot for overflow or boat trailers. On-site amenities include vault toilets, drinking water, bear-proof food lockers, and access to the 1-mile, hiker-only Hirz Bay Trail. Boating and fishing for trout and bass are popular, with the public Hirz Bay boat ramp located nearby.
Getting there: Exit I-5 at Gilman Road/Salt Creek Road. Southbound traffic: exit and turn left onto Salt Creek Road, second left is Gilman Road. Northbound traffic: turn right onto Gilman Road. Follow Gilman Road for 10 miles east to Dekkas Rock Group.
