Crystal Creek Primitive Campground in CA -- Campground & RV Camping in California

Crystal Creek Primitive Campground is a tent-only facility tucked under a forest canopy of fir, maple, and pine alongside Crystal Creek in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The site features two tent-on-the-ground campsites sharing a vault toilet, each equipped with a picnic table, fire pit, lamp pole, and bear-resistant food locker. There are no electrical hookups or drinking water. Due to a steep, unpaved entrance road, all trailers, RVs, vehicle sleeping, and towed vehicles are prohibited. Three nearby trails connect to area waterfalls.

Getting there: From Redding, CA, drive 19 miles west on Highway 299. Turn left on Crystal Creek Road and follow it for 3.5 miles to the campground. The campground will be on the left-hand side of the road down an unpaved driveway.

• Flat ground is scarce: under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
• Shasta Bally stands 4,141 ft above the map pin, 3.0 miles south.
• Mostly tent-only sites, with 2 on the water and most of them shaded.
