Upper Oso Campground sits at an elevation of 1,040 feet beside a seasonal creek in the lower Santa Ynez Recreation Area, surrounded by oak trees. Open year-round, the facility contains roughly two dozen tent and RV sites without hookups, including 10 equestrian sites fitted with horse corrals and long paved parking spurs. On-site amenities include accessible flush toilets, drinking water, tables, campfire rings, and pedestal grills. Trailheads at the campground connect to the 2.5-mile Aliso National Recreation Trail, the 18-mile Santa Cruz Trail, and the 10-mile Camuesa OHV Route.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Little Pine Mountain stands 2,169 ft above the site, 3.2 miles north. Most of them shaded. Santa Ynez River runs 1.0 mi off. The nearest town, Mission Canyon, is 7.4 mi off.

September normals 5785°F, 0.1″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
