Santa Rosa Island Backcountry Beach Camping offers primitive, off-grid tent camping along undeveloped ocean beaches beneath coastal bluffs. Accessed via Bechers Bay pier or by watercraft, campers must backpack or kayak all gear, food, and water to designated coastal stretches. There are no developed facilities, electricity, or trash services, requiring visitors to pack out all waste and carry dedicated waste bags. Reliable freshwater is extremely limited outside of Clapp Spring. The terrain involves rugged, unmaintained coastal routes and exposed badlands.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Private here -- no through road within 3.7 miles, a 33-site campground. Mostly tent-only sites -- 33 hike-in sites, 3 boat-in sites. The nearest town, Isla Vista, is 33 mi off.
