Setting
Environmental Camp Area 1 is one of four primitive backcountry sites within Montaña de Oro State Park requiring a 100-yard to half-mile hike from the parking area. Named sites include Bloody Nose, Hazard Grove, Badger Flat, and Deer Flat camps, each accommodating groups up to eight people. Amenities are minimal: pit toilets only, no potable water (pack in all drinking water), and no campfires permitted. Set amid the park's 8,000 acres of rugged coastal terrain with dramatic cliffs, sandy beaches, streams and canyons, these remote hike-in sites preserve a primitive character for those seeking solitude along the central coast.
