Doane Valley Campground is situated at 5,000 feet elevation atop Palomar Mountain in northern San Diego County, within a forest of large pine, fir, and cedar trees that creates one of southern California's few alpine mountain experiences. The campground offers 31 tent sites with fire rings, plus group camping options, restrooms with showers, and drinking water. Nearby Doane Pond provides trout fishing access. Hiking trails provide ridge-top vistas of the surrounding mountain landscape. RVs up to 24 feet and trailers are accommodated seasonally (reservations April through November).
