Setting
Frenchman Campground sits at 5,700 feet on a pine-covered hillside on the southeastern peninsula of Frenchman Lake in Plumas National Forest. The facility has 38 single-family tent and RV campsites equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills. Shared amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. A boat ramp and day-use area sit right near the campground, providing access to the 21-mile shoreline for swimming, boating, jet skiing, and fishing. The surrounding area features the Little Last Chance Canyon Scenic Area and numerous forest roads.
Getting there: From Reno, Nevada, travel north on Highway 395. Merge onto Highway 70 west and travel 5 miles to Chilcoot. Turn north on Highway 284 and continue 8 miles to Frenchman Lake, turn right, cross the dam, and travel a mile to the campground.
