Setting
Hampshire Rocks Campground sits on the north bank of the upper South Yuba River in a forest of lodgepole pines within Tahoe National Forest. Accessible off Interstate 80, the site features single-family campsites with picnic tables and campfire rings, plus vault toilets and drinking water. The historic California Emigrant Trail passes directly through the campground. River access allows for swimming and rainbow trout fishing, while the surrounding forest supports hiking, mountain biking, and off-road vehicle trails.
Getting there: From Truckee, Calif., take Highway 80 west 17 miles. Take the Rainbow/Big Bend exit. If westbound, turn left under the freeway to the campground entrance. If eastbound, turn right at the stop sign.
