Setting
Trailhead Group Campground sits at 10,000 feet in a pine forest in the eastern Sierra Nevada, adjacent to 600-acre Saddlebag Lake and the Hoover Wilderness. The facility consists of a single tent-only group site for up to 25 people, equipped with picnic tables and flush toilets; drinking water is available at the neighboring Saddlebag Lake Campground. The setting draws visitors for trout fishing, boating, and high-altitude hiking, with a nearby boat ramp and access to the Twenty Lakes Basin Trail. A resort at the lake offers boat rentals, supplies, and a restaurant.
Getting there: Take U.S. Highway 395 in California to its junction with State Highway 120 west. Take 120 west 10 miles toward Tioga Pass. Turn right on Forest Road 1N04 to Saddlebag Lake. Proceed up 1N04 for 2.4 miles. Take the first right just past the open gate on the road. The campground is on the right, just past the restroom.
