Setting
Old Shady Rest Campground sits under a canopy of mature Jeffrey pines at 7,800 feet in the eastern Sierra Nevada, adjacent to the town of Mammoth Lakes. Designed for tents and small-to-medium RVs, the single-loop campground provides flush toilets, campfire rings, picnic tables, and bear-proof food storage lockers, with firewood for sale on site. Visitors use the camp for mountain biking, hiking local trails, trout fishing in surrounding lakes and streams, or taking paved multi-use paths directly into town for dining and parks.
Getting there: Old Shady Rest is near Mammoth Lakes, California, 300 miles north of Los Angeles and 165 miles south of Reno, Nevada. Take U.S. Highway 395 to State Route 203. Proceed west on 203 for 2.8 miles to Old Sawmill Road. Take a right, go 0.5 mile. The campground entrance is on the left.
