Setting
McGee Campground sits at 7,600 feet along McGee Creek between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes. Set in open sagebrush near an aspen-lined meadow, the 28 paved, reservable campsites feature individual picnic shelters, with select sites backing directly onto the stream. Facilities include bear-proof food storage lockers and on-site firewood sales. Trout fishing is available in McGee Creek, and the McGee Creek Trailhead sits two miles up the road, providing access for hikers and horseback riders into the adjacent John Muir Wilderness.
Getting there: From U.S. Highway 395 in California, take the McGee Creek exit, located 8 miles south of Mammoth Lakes and 37 miles north of Bishop. Proceed 2 miles south up the paved McGee Creek Road. The campground is on the left.
