Setting
Green Creek Group Campground sits at 7,500 feet elevation, tucked between Green Creek and a rocky outcrop 12 miles from Bridgeport, California. Set among Jeffrey pines, aspens, and sagebrush, the primitive facility offers two group sites for 25 and 30 people, equipped with large picnic tables, campfire circles, grills, food storage lockers, vault toilets, and dirt parking spurs. Anglers visit to catch rainbow trout in the creek, while hikers and horseback riders take the nearby Green Creek Trail into the surrounding mountains to reach Green Lake and East Lake.
Getting there: From Bridgeport, California, take Highway 395 south 5 miles. Turn west on Forest Road 142 and follow signs for 9 miles of narrow dirt road, to the campground on the left, just passed the trailhead parking.
