Setting

Little privacy

French Camp sits along cascading Rock Creek in the Sierra Nevada, positioned at 7,500 feet among aspens, pinyon, ponderosa, and Jeffrey pines. Organized as one large loop, the facility caters to tents and small-to-medium RVs without hookups, though select sites accommodate larger rigs and sit directly on the creek banks. Every campsite includes a picnic table and campfire ring, with firewood available on-site for purchase. The location serves as a Highway 395 stopover with direct access to trout fishing in the creek and trailheads exploring the surrounding mountains.

Getting there: From Bishop or Mammoth Lakes, California, follow U.S. Highway 395 (about 30 miles north of Bishop). Take the Tom's Place exit and go 1 mile on Rock Creek Road.

  • Little separation from through roads or other sites here, an 84-site campground with the nearest through road 0.1 miles off.
  • Red Mountain stands 4,220 ft above the map pin, 3.7 miles southwest.
  • Most of them shaded.
