Setting

Little privacy

East Fork Campground sits at 8,900 feet in Rock Creek Canyon, heavily shaded by pine, fir, and seasonal aspens near Lower Rock Creek. The multi-loop facility offers campsites nestled in timber and along the creek bank, each equipped with bear-proof food storage lockers, picnic tables, and campfire rings. Firewood is sold on site. Cascading out of the nearby John Muir Wilderness, Rock Creek provides active brook, brown, and rainbow trout fishing. Hikers and mountain bikers can head straight onto canyon trails that wind toward high-elevation alpine lakes.

Getting there: From Bishop or Mammoth Lakes, California, follow U.S. Highway 395 (about 30 miles north of Bishop). Take the Tom's Place exit and go 6 miles on Rock Creek Road.

  • Little separation from through roads or other sites here, a 134-site campground with the nearest through road 0.2 miles off.
  • Mount Morgan stands 3,975 ft above the map pin, 3.9 miles northwest.
  • East Fork Rock Creek runs 0.6 mi off.
