Setting
Convict Lake Campground sits at 7,500 feet along Convict Creek, 100 yards from 167-acre Convict Lake. Aspen and cottonwood trees line the creek, set against low shrubs and Sierra Nevada peaks. The facility provides campsites with bear lockers, flush toilets, drinking water, a dump station, and firewood sales. The 3.5-mile Lake Trail connects directly from the site, providing access for hiking around the water, while the lake supports electric-motor boating and trout fishing. Convict Lake Resort is down the road with a store, restaurant, and boat rentals.
Getting there: Convict Lake Campground is about 34 miles north of Bishop, California on Highway 395. From Bishop, travel north on 395. The turnoff to the campground is across from Mammoth Yosemite Airport and is well-signed. From Mammoth Lakes, travel on Highway 395 south for 5 miles. Turn west off of Highway 395.
