Russian Gulch State Park hugs the Mendocino County coast near Fort Bragg, featuring 7,630 feet of rocky ocean frontage carved into dramatic headlands. The campground anchors the park's eastern section, with a 2.5-mile trail from the campground following an abandoned logging road along a coastal creek to a 36-foot waterfall. A small beach provides restroom and shower facilities for swimming, skin diving, fishing, and tide pool exploration. Iron rings embedded in the headlands mark 19th-century lumber-shipping operations; a redwood shingle mill once operated on-site. Trails suit hikers, cyclists, and horses crossing the 1940 concrete-arch Frederick W. Panhorst Bridge.
