Situated at 4,000 feet elevation in southern Yosemite National Park, Wawona Campground lies along the South Fork of the Merced River, 27 miles from Yosemite Valley. The facility offers paved sites for individual, group, and equestrian campers, equipped with food storage lockers, fire rings, picnic tables, flush toilets, and drinking water. Ponderosa pine, incense-cedar, and white fir shade the grounds. Nearby trails include the Wawona Meadow and Swinging Bridge loops, while the Pioneer Yosemite History Center sits a mile away and Mariposa Grove's giant sequoias are four miles south.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Turner Ridge stands 953 ft above the site, 1.0 miles northeast. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.7 miles off, a 99-site campground. 1 hike-in site -- 27 sit on the water, most of them shaded. Mosquito Creek runs 0.9 mi off. The nearest town, Yosemite Valley, is 13 mi off.

September normals 5175°F, 0.4″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
