Setting
Located at 4,000 feet elevation on the floor of Yosemite Valley, Upper Pines Campground is set among black oak, ponderosa pine, and incense-cedar with views of the park's granite cliffs. The campground features paved roads and parking spurs, flush toilets, drinking water, and individual sites with fire rings, tables, and food storage lockers. The Merced River flows nearby. Trailheads for the 2-mile walk to Mirror Lake and the 14-to-16-mile trek up Half Dome begin right next to the site, while a free park shuttle stops directly at the campground entrance for easy valley access.
Getting there: Take Highway 41 north from Fresno, Highway 140 east from Merced, or Highway 120 east from Manteca into Yosemite National Park. Follow signs to Yosemite Valley and the campgrounds.
