Campground details
Setting
Sweetwater Campground is a single loop along Chiquito Creek in the Sierra National Forest, shaded by pine, oak, and cedar. Sites overlook the creek or a neighboring brook. Most people come to fish and swim in the creek's water holes or head to nearby Mammoth Pool Reservoir for boating, trout fishing, and hiking near the Ansel Adams Wilderness. On-site facilities include picnic tables, grills, fire rings, and vault toilets, though campers must supply their own drinking water. The tight turns and trees along the dirt and paved spur roads make the loop best for tents, pop-ups, and slide-in campers.
Getting there: From Fresno, California, take Highway 41 north. Turn northeast on Forest Road 200 and pass through North Fork. Take Minarets Road east and follow it 37 miles. Turn right on Mammoth Pool Road and follow it 2 miles to Sweetwater Campground.
- Limited separation from through roads or other sites here, a 12-site campground with the nearest through road 0.1 miles off.
