Setting
Sandy Flat Campground sits at 2,300 feet elevation in Sequoia National Forest, located a short walk from the Lower Kern River near Lake Isabella. Campsites are arranged along a single loop set among large boulders and open clearings. River access for floating, fishing, and wading is located in the adjacent day-use area. On-site facilities include drinking water, picnic tables, and vault toilets. The short Hobo Fishing Trail is located nearby, providing additional foot access along the river bank.
Getting there: From Highway 99, take Highway 178 east for 4 miles. Turn right on Borel Road, then right onto the Old Canyon Road. Continue about 2 miles, then turn right into Sandy Flats Campground.
