Lone Pine Campground sits among sagebrush along Lone Pine Creek at an elevation of 6,000 feet, right at the base of Mt. Whitney in the Sierra Nevada. The terrain offers little to no shade, giving unblocked views of nearby granite peaks. Formed as a single loop, the site contains primarily RV spaces, a few tent sites, and one 15-person group tent site. Facilities include campfire rings, vault toilets, and firewood sales. Visitors use the campground as a base for trout fishing on Lone Pine Creek or hiking the National Recreation Trail to Whitney Portal, located seven miles from the Mt. Whitney trailhead.
