Setting
Big Pine Canyon Recreation Area features two paved group sites, Clyde Glacier and Palisade Glacier, set along Big Pine Creek in a steep glacier-carved canyon. Clyde Glacier accommodates up to 25 people with paved parking spaces, while Palisade Glacier fits 25 guests for tent camping only. Both sites include campfire rings and grills. Big Pine Creek offers trout fishing, while the North Fork Trail leads past waterfalls to Big Pine Lakes beneath Palisade Glacier, and the South Fork Trail climbs toward high mountain peaks.
Getting there: From Highway 395 in Big Pine, California, turn west at flashing yellow traffic light and continue on Crocker Street/Big Pine Road for 9 miles. The group campground is just above Upper Sage Flat Campground on the left.
