Pines Group Site is set on the northwest shore of Stony Gorge Reservoir in the foothills of the Coast Range near Stony Gorge Dam. The group camping area features dispersed picnic tables under shade trees, a stone fire pit, and a large brick barbecue. Warm-water fishing for bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish is accessible along the 18-mile shoreline, and the open campsite area provides space for swimming. A public boat launch is located one mile from the campsite, and the Red Mountain Trailhead is a short drive away.

The Stony Gorge Reservoir shoreline is 0.1 mi off. Private here -- the nearest through road is 0.6 miles off, a single-site campground. A group campground -- one sits on the water, most of them shaded. Noel Spring Ridge stands 4,345 ft above the site, 8.5 miles southwest. The nearest town, Willows, is 18 mi off.
