Setting
Camp Four and a Half Cabin is a 1957 ranger residence set along the Kings River above Pine Flat Reservoir in Giant Sequoia National Monument. Sitting at 1,100 feet elevation in a deep canyon, the two-bedroom cabin sleeps six with a full kitchen, bathroom, generator power, heater, swamp cooler, outdoor grill, and picnic table. Outside space allows for additional tent setups. Visitors head here to fish, swim, kayak, or raft on the Kings River, ride off-road vehicles on surrounding roads, or hike nearby trails like the Kings River National Recreation Trail.
Getting there: From Fresno, California take Highway 180 to Academy Avenue. Turn left (north) and proceed one mile to the intersection with Belmont Avenue. Turn right (east) on Belmont. Proceed east on Belmont which turns into Trimmer Springs Road. In about 13 miles you will pass through the tiny community of Piedra, your last opportunity to purchase supplies and gas. This store is only open during the day. After about 42 miles you will cross the Kings River bridge and continue onto paved Forest Service Road 12S01. The road turns to dirt after a mile, and the cabin is located nearly a mile further down 12S01.
