Setting
West Point Campground sits at 4,875 feet elevation on the northwest shore of Union Valley Reservoir. The facility includes 22 individual campsites that vary in capacity from single to triple configurations, alongside a day-use area. A boat ramp directly on site provides water access to the reservoir for boating, fishing, and swimming. Area trails accommodate local hiking and biking. Located off North Union Valley Road, the campground also serves as a jumping-off point for pack trips and day hikes into the nearby Desolation Wilderness of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Getting there: Access is via Highway 50, 23 miles east of Placerville, California, then 7 miles north on Ice House Road, turn left onto Peavine Ridge Road for 3 miles, make a right turn on Bryant Springs Road, go 5 miles north across the dam and just past the boat ramp to the right
