Setting
Located at 4,900 feet in the Sierra Nevada foothills, Wench Creek Campground sits in a ponderosa pine forest on the east shore of Union Valley Reservoir. The park features single-family sites and two 50-person group sites (one tent-only, one standard). Amenities include grills, fire rings, picnic tables, drinking water, and vault toilets, with no electric hookups. Shoreline boat mooring is available, with public ramps nearby. The 4.8-mile Union Valley Bike Trail runs through the campground, and the reservoir supports swimming, water skiing, and fishing for salmon and trout.
Getting there: On Highway 50, go 21 miles east of Placerville to Riverton. Turn left on Icehouse Riverton Road. Go 19 miles north to Wench Creek turnoff, then turn left to campground.
