Setting
South Fork is a group campground sitting at 5,200 feet between Union Valley Reservoir and Loon Lake in the Eldorado National Forest. It can be reserved as a single group area for up to 125 people or as multiple single-family sites. Facilities include a group cooking area with prep tables and double grills, site campfire rings with grills, vault toilets, and parking. There is no drinking water on site. The South Fork of the Rubicon River is within walking distance for fishing and swimming, while non-motorized boating and swimming are available at Gerle Creek Reservoir 5 miles north.
Getting there: Travel 21 miles east from Placerville on Highway 50 and turn left on the Ice House Road. Go 25 miles north and turn left on South Fork Road. The campground is a mile from the turn-off, on the right side of the road.
