21 of the 49.5 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Mostly paved, with 20 miles of dirt. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~120 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 22 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch. A gate 34.3 miles in.
A well-travelled stretch -- travellers have camped along here. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off. Baltic Peak stands 1,339 ft above the site, 2.3 miles southeast. The Jenkinson Lake shoreline is 0.4 mi off. The nearest town, Pollock Pines, is 3.9 mi off.
