Setting
Set within Sierra Nevada pine woods at Camp Richardson Resort, this tent-only campground sits a 10-minute walk from the southern shore of Lake Tahoe along a paved path. It offers 66 single and 18 double tent sites with paved parking pads, picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and bear-proof food lockers. No RVs or pets are allowed. Facilities include accessible flush toilets, coin-operated showers, a general store, deli, marina, ice cream parlor, and bar and grill. Emerald Bay and the Tallac Historic Site are nearby, with direct access to local hiking and bike trails.
Getting there: Badger's Den Campground is located 3 miles south of Tahoe City, on California Highway 89 (Emerald Bay Road). From Sacramento, take U.S. Highway 50 to South Lake Tahoe and proceed north past the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Highway 89 (the "Y"). Look for the Camp Richardson Resort sign on the right side of the Highway. From North Shore (I-80, Reno, Truckee) take Highway 89 or U.S. Highway 50 to South Shore.
