Setting
Grassy Flat Campground is a shady Douglas fir and hardwood forest site along northern California's Redwood Highway in Six Rivers National Forest, steps from the Smith River. The campground features single-family tent and RV sites equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills, as well as accessible vault toilets. No drinking water is available. Visitors come to raft, swim, and fish for salmon, steelhead, and cutthroat trout on the Smith River. Nearby trailheads within 10 miles include Elk Camp Ridge, High Dome, and French Hill for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
Getting there: From Highway 101 north of Crescent City, California, take Highway 199 east for 18 miles to Grassy Flat Campground.
