The picnic shelter at New Hogan Dam and Lake sits in the Sierra Nevada foothills overlooking a 4,400-acre reservoir. The covered day-use site includes concrete-anchored tables for 75 people, a large standing barbecue, electrical outlets, and nearby flush restrooms, drinking fountains, horseshoe pits, and a playground. The adjacent lake features 50 miles of shoreline for year-round fishing for bass and catfish, while the Calaveras River below the dam offers trout fishing. The site shares a parking lot with the park visitor center.
