Located above 6,000 feet in the Bradshaw Mountains, Horsethief Cabin is a historic 1939 Forest Service structure set in a clearing of ponderosa pines. The cabin sleeps up to six people and includes running water, electricity, a flush toilet, shower, propane heater, stove, oven, refrigerator, and small appliances. Outside features include a picnic table, fire ring, and pedestal grill. A short hike leads to Horsethief Basin Lake for non-motorized boating and fishing, while nearby trails access Castle Creek Wilderness and Horsethief Canyon.
Road difficulty 3 of 5 -- a rough drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 6%. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Lane Mountain stands 1,205 ft above the site, 1.7 miles west. Cabins and shelters rather than pads -- most of them shaded. Horsethief Lake lies 0.4 mi off. The nearest town, Black Canyon City, is 12 mi off.
