Setting
Groom Creek Schoolhouse is a historic 1902 two-room building and day-use facility in Prescott National Forest, set among ponderosa pines, junipers, oaks, and wildflowers. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it served local students until 1952. The site holds up to 60 guests for group meetings and events, featuring indoor tables and chairs, an accessible outdoor picnic area with 10 tables, vault toilets, a small amphitheater, and parking for 12 vehicles. No drinking water is on site. The paved Groom Creek Nature Trail and broader forest trail networks lie right outside.
Getting there: From Phoenix, Arizona, take I-17 north for 61.8 miles. Take exit 262 toward Cordes Junction/Prescott. Merge onto State Route 69 west and follow for 33.8 miles. At the split, take the ramp for Route 89 south. Turn slight left onto East Gurley Street/89 and follow for about 0.8-mile. Turn left at Mt. Vernon Street and continue for 6.1 miles.
