Groom Creek Horse Camp sits at 6,398 feet among ponderosa pines, seven miles south of Prescott. Built exclusively for equestrian campers, the facility contains 30 gravel-surfaced sites spread across three loops, each featuring a picnic table, fire ring, 16-by-16-foot steel corral, and an overhead tether line. Two reservable group sites add ramadas and extra grills. On-site amenities include four vault toilets, drinking water faucets, and trash dumpsters. Three multi-use trail loops connect directly to the camp, providing access to miles of forest riding.

Road difficulty 3 of 5 -- a rough drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 8%. Overhead clearance here is posted at 14 ft -- the tightest site sets the limit.

Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 35-site campground. Most of them shaded. South Spruce Ridge stands 1,279 ft above the site, 2.1 miles east. Night skies measure Bortle 2 -- true dark-sky territory. The nearest town, Prescott, is 8.6 mi off.

September normals 4777°F, 2.4″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
