A 25.0-mile stretch of dirt National Forest road in Santa Cruz County, AZ. The road serves Anaconda Spring.
20.7 of the 25 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Dirt the whole way in (25 miles). Climbs 5,500 ft over 25 miles -- sustained grades near 18%, with pitches to 28%. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~140 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 36 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch. Water crossings 10.5, 11, 11, 11, 11.5, 11.8, 12, 12.2, 12.7, 12.8, 12.9, 12.9, 14.9, 16.9, 17.1, 17.3, 17.6, 17.9, 18 and 22.4 miles in. Locked gates 10.6, 18.2 and 24.3 miles in. Cattle guards 17.2, 17.5, 18.7, 20.4 and 23.8 miles in. Gates 21.2 and 21.6 miles in.
Mount Wrightson stands 2,843 ft above the site, 3.4 miles north. A well-travelled stretch -- travellers have camped along here. Private here -- the nearest through road is 1.7 miles off. A body of water lies 0.6 mi off. The nearest town, Tubac, is 13 mi off.
