Setting
Gentry Group Campground is a flat, sandy ridge-top facility shaded by ponderosa pines, firs, and oaks, overlooking Black Canyon Lake and its surrounding canyons. Designed for tent campers and small rigs due to tight turns, the campground provides picnic tables, campfire grills, and a vault toilet along sand and gravel roads. Visitors use the location for wildlife viewing—including a local herd of wild horses—hiking, and photography. Basic services and supplies are located 10 miles west in Forest Lakes and 13 miles east in Heber.
Getting there: Approximately 13 west of Heber on AZ Highway 260, take Forest Road 300 south approximately four and one half miles, following signs to Gentry Lookout Tower. Located adjacent to Forest Road 300, at just over the 7,700 foot elevation mark, this campground shares its space with the Lookout Tower.
