Setting
Riggs Flat Lake Campground sits at the end of Swift Trail atop the Pinaleño Mountains, surrounding an 11-acre alpine lake framed by pine forests and meadows. The lake is stocked with rainbow, brown, and brook trout from May to October. Facilities include a boat ramp for non-gasoline electric watercraft, picnic tables, vault toilets, and parking. Shoreline fishing is popular along the bank. Nearby hiking trails lead to scenic overlooks facing West Peak, the Galiuro Mountains, and the Aravaipa Valley. Emergency medical services are located in Safford.
Getting there: From Safford, drive south 8 miles on US 191 to AZ 366. Turn right (southwest) onto 366 and drive 29 miles to the Columbine Work Center. Continue along Forest Roads 803 and 287 about 5 miles to the campground. The last 12 miles of this road are narrow and winding.
