Lower Tonto Creek Campground is a walk-in facility located right next to Highway 260, just south of where Tonto and Horton Creeks meet. Campsites are arranged along a paved sidewalk under tall pine trees. Parking is centralized in a open lot, requiring a short walk along the path to reach the sites. Tonto Creek runs right alongside the campground, offering immediate stream fishing. Highline National Recreation Trail access is available via the nearby Horton Creek and Derrick trails.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Promontory Butte stands 2,271 ft above the site, 3.0 miles east. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 13-site campground. Mostly tent-only sites -- 10 hike-in sites. Horton Creek runs 0.5 mi off. The nearest town, Star Valley, is 8.6 mi off.
