Houston Mesa Campground sits at 5,200 feet in a pinyon and juniper forest within Tonto National Forest, just one mile north of Payson. The facility contains 102 campsites, including 46 standard sites, 29 tent-only sites, and 27 equestrian sites equipped with corrals, tables, and grills in the Mule Deer Loop. Amenities include flush toilets and access to the 0.5-mile Houston Mesa Interpretive Trail. The 9-mile Houston Mesa Loop Trail connects directly to the horse staging area, offering routes for hikers and horseback riders through the surrounding terrain.
