Mather Campground is a large 327-site facility set under a canopy of ponderosa pine, pinyon, and juniper trees in Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim. Located one mile from the canyon rim, it features standard tent and RV sites without hookups, seven group sites, and two equine sites. On-site amenities include campfire rings with cooking grates, picnic tables, drinking water spigots, flush toilets, a nearby dump station, and a generator-free loop. The paved Greenway trail passes directly through the campground, offering foot and bike access to scenic overlooks, the park visitor center, and the Rim Trail.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Sits on broad, near-level ground.
Crowded here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 357-site campground. 12 hike-in sites -- most of them shaded. Night skies measure Bortle 3 -- a dark rural sky. The nearest town, Grand Canyon Village, is 2.3 mi off.
