Bonita Canyon Campground sits in a shaded pine and oak forest within Chiricahua National Monument, along the usually dry Bonita Creek. The facility offers unhooked sites for tents and small rigs up to 29 feet, each equipped with a picnic table, raised grill, food storage box, and tent pad. Flush toilets and drinking water taps are available on site, though there are no showers. Hikers can access the monument's trails through the rocky landscape directly from the area, with additional recreation, horse camping, and historic sites nearby in Coronado National Forest and Fort Bowie.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Overhead clearance here is posted at 12 ft -- the tightest site sets the limit.
Riggs Mountain stands 833 ft above the site, 0.4 miles northwest. Crowded here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 26-site campground. A body of water lies 0.2 mi off. Most of them shaded. The nearest town, Willcox, is 33 mi off.
