Setting
Rainbow Campground is the largest camping facility in the Big Lake Recreation Area, sitting at 9,000 feet in the White Mountains among ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, spruce, and aspen. The campground features 165 sites arranged across six loops, including single accessible units and four double sites. An on-site host provides assistance, and a nearby store offers boat rentals, firewood, gas, and food. The camp borders 450-acre Big Lake, giving visitors access to trout fishing, mountain biking, hiking trails, and the local visitor center.
Getting there: From Pinetop, Arizona, take Highway 260 east 25 miles to Highway 273 south. Follow Highway 273 south 19 miles to Forest Road 8115 (Big Lake Entrance). Turn right and travel 1 mile to the campground.
