Setting
Apache Trout Campground sits at 9,100 feet in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona within the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. The property is shaded by ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, spruce, and aspen, interspersed with high-elevation meadows. It is a short walk from 450-acre Big Lake, a major Arizona destination for trout fishing with rainbow, cutthroat, brook, and Apache trout. Layout options include more than 20 individual sites, 22 double sites, and two large group sites holding up to 50 and 100 people. This is the only campground in the Big Lake area featuring full RV hookups, flush toilets, and showers.
Getting there: From Pinetop, Arizona, take Highway 260 east 25 miles to Highway 273 south. Follow Highway 273 south 19 miles to Forest Road 8115 (Big Lake Entrance). Turn right and travel 3 miles.
