Setting
Set in a shaded former pine plantation in the Poteau Mountain valley, Little Pines offers 9 level, back-in campsites along the shore of 960-acre Lake Hinkle. Every site includes water and electric hookups, a picnic table, fire ring, lantern post, and paved parking. On-site facilities feature flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, a swim area, and a large pavilion. Boaters and anglers have access to a ramp, courtesy docks, fishing pier, and fish cleaning station. A short hiking trail starts in the day-use area, with local OHV and mountain bike trails a few miles away.
Getting there: From the Poteau Ranger Station in Waldron, Arkansas, drive west on Highway 248 for 11 miles. Stay on paved road. Turn east (left) on County Road 10 (Trampp Loop) for the entrance to the LIttle Pines Recreation Area (Second Trampp Loop Turn off. DO NOT turn on first Trampp Loop turn off which is a dirt road). Looks for signs that say Little Pines Campground.
